Switching Versions of UDK, December < September
Due to shader incompatibility with ATI/AMD video cards in the December release of the UDK Tool set we will be rolling all of the installs in the Wallace Lab back to the September release Monday. If you have previously installed the December toolset then please uninstall it.
Then download and install:
September 2011 UDK Beta (1.5 GB .exe)
MD5 43b8ee60d152f9afbb7dd6807f912d1b
What this means:
1. I will review and grade your work from the first Sprint in the December release. The work done for Tutorial One will no longer work if you try to load it in the September release of the software. UDK will crash. Put simply, your first tutorial map will no longer work moving forward. This shouldn’t be a big deal and I am happy we caught these issues before moving into everyone’s personal projects where this could have been soul shattering.
2. From today forward all resources from my site will be saved in the September release and may or may not work in the December release. All the more reason to nuke the December release now and fetch September.
3. Why are we doing this again? With the September release I can insure that your game, your epic design, will export to iOS regardless of whether you are running a PC with an Nvidia or AMD video card. The video card is what is compiling our shaders to export to the phone.
4. Does this suck? A little but such is Design and Development. Never bet on single option and always have a plan B.
Tutorial Two Part 1 and the associated resources to be posted this afternoon.
